Melton remains winless

Melton is the only team without a win in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west heading into the Christmas break.

The Lions on Saturday faced Altona, another side which was looking for its first win.

The A’s looked on track for a massive score, before losing 6-33 in the back end of the innings.

They would eventually make 9-184.

Opener Matthew Grubb top scored with 55.

Riley Norris and Alex Kerr took two wickets each for the Lions.

The Lions never got going and were in trouble at 8-59. Norris (18) and Shehan Hirudika (45) provided some resistance, but the Lions were eventually bowled out for 117.

Callum Hands took 4-24, while skipper Adam Yates took three wickets.

The win moves Altona to 12th on the ladder, while Melton is bottom.

Spotswood cemented its spot towards the top of the ladder, with victory against Moorabbin.

Skipper Jakson Knight made 103 not out as his side made 3-224.

The total would prove too much, with Moorabbin bowled out for 174.

Jackson Wadden and Matthew Sazenis took three wickets apiece.

Spotswood sits second heading into the Christmas break.

Williamstown had a big win against Hoppers Crossing.

The Seagulls were able to chase down the Cats total of 8-231 with two wickets and one ball remaining.

The Seagulls finished 8-232 with Matthew Dervan.

Yarraville lost to Port Melbourne in a high scoring affair.

Chasing 7-250, Port Melbourne hit the winning runs with one over remaining, finishing 5-251.

The competition resumes on January 8.
