Students sing out for Good Friday Appeal

Students in Caroline Springs sang out for a good cause to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital on April 6.

Creekside College held its long-awaited Busking Day event, with students from kindergarten to year nine getting involved in the festivities.

Creekside College teacher and event organiser Katia Buriani said the event had run annually since the school opened in 2006 and had grown significantly since then.

“Students have been so invested in contributing to the day, previous Busking Day celebrations have raised thousands of dollars for the Royal Children’s hospital,” Ms Buriani said.

Students and teachers performed on stage, while others ran market stalls, activities and games for the school community to enjoy.

Creekside College principal Gary Eckersall said the day was a celebration of the school community and an opportunity for students and teachers to work together to raise money for an important cause.

“The day is so enjoyable because it’s a celebration of the many skills and talents of both students and teachers alike,” Mr Eckersall said.

School captains Lana and Michael said they both enjoyed being able to support other children who were in need while enjoying the day with their fellow students.

“Supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital is important because we are supporting children who are not as well-off as us health-wise,” Michael said.

Lana said it was important to raise awareness of children in need within the community and the school event was a way to involve young people.

“It’s a good way to donate money raised as a school through something that young people can do.”
