Moorabool council is continuing its roadside slashing program this month after works were delayed last year due to wet weather and storms, exacerbated by La Nina.

The weather phenomenon, which causes colder and wetter weather than usual, has also caused grass to grow faster, increasing the demand for roadside slashing.

The program is due to be completed by end of January with slashing of sealed roads covering two zones:

*Eastern Zone – Communities east of the Geelong/Ballan and Ballan/Daylesford Roads.

*Western Zone – Communities west of the Geelong/Ballan and Ballan/ Daylesford Roads.

In addition to the sealed road slashing program, the council slashes strategic fire break areas in consultation with local CFA brigades.

In a statement, Moorabool said it does not slash unsealed roads unless vegetation growth encroaches upon safe line of sight distances at intersections.
