Melton and Moorabool residents are being urged to regularly check public transport updates with expected changes due to driver availability.

With a large number of staff isolating, the department of transport said some services may be disrupted over the next few weeks as it works to balance timetable requirements with staff availability.

With expected disruptions, the department is advising passengers to allow extra travel time.

Public transport patronage is currently at 29 per cent of pre-COVID levels.

COVID requirements remain in place and the department said it continues to clean high-touch surfaces such as next-stop buttons, door handles and myki touch points.

More than 500 hand sanitisers have been installed and all passengers eight years and over are required to wear a fitted face mask when travelling on public transport.
