Fundraising by foot

Adam Miller is facing a mammoth challenge – Melton to Wodonga by foot.

And he reckons he may be a bit under-done.

The father of two will embark on a 340-kilometre charity run to the New South Wales border on May 26 to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Mr Miller said be made a promise to himself he would give back to the hospital in which his son, Lucas, spent much of his early years.

“My son was born with an umbilical hernia and intestinal problems,” Mr Miller said.

“We spent a lot of time in and out of emergency. Whenever we took him to Royal Children’s, we were always put at ease, offered help and reassured that everything was OK.”

Mr Millar’s online fundraising campaign has already raised more than $1300 towards a lofty $10,000 goal.

“It was originally going to be a ride, but I’m better on my feet,” Mr Miller said.

“Training has involved a lot of running. I’ve recently been doing the local parkrun events, and have been tracking long runs to Sunbury and back.”

He’ll start from Melton, head for Lancefield, Seymour, Benalla, Euroa, Chilton, Wangaratta and, finally, Wodonga.

Mr Miller said about 80 per cent of his trek would be along dirt roads, the rest will be on sealed roads.

“Melton to Seymour is all uphill,” he said. “I have trained for a while but I might be a bit under prepared.”

Mr Miller’s wife, Laken and children Lucas, 4 and Chloe, 1, will cheer him on from their Melton home, while his support crew includes his dad and two brothers.
