ABORIGINAL remains were uncovered at a site in Bacchus Marsh yesterday.
Moorabool Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Corey Page said the human bones were uncovered during the afternoon.
Detective Senior Constable Page said police would not release details on where the bones were found, how they were discovered or who discovered them, at the request of the Wadawurrung people.
Details on the age of the bones and the number of people they represent were also unavailable.
In other news, fire crews were last night investigating an strange chemical smell in the area around the intersection of Macarthur and Drummond streets.
The smell was reported at 6.30pm, but crews from Ballarat City Fire Brigade could not identify the source of the report.
Testing was conducted but no chemical traces were identified.
Anyone who has concerns of chemical or gas smells in their area should call triple zero immediately.
