TENANTS struggling with nosy landlords, rent disputes or promised repairs that never happen could find a solution to their plight at an information day next week.
Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre principal solicitor Khanh Nguyen said the centre would hold a tenancy clinic from 10am-4pm on May 23.
“The clinic day is for any tenants who are having difficulties with the landlord or just needing general advice regarding their tenancy agreement,” he said.
Difficulties with landlords could include repairs, bonds, falling behind in rent, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearings, or intrusions on the tenants’ peace and quiet.
Difficulty in securing the return of bonds and eviction notices are other problems encountered. “We see people with language barriers being served with VCAT forms in English and being unsure what’s going on,” Mr Nguyen said.
Tenants seeking help should take along a copy of their rental agreement, receipts for repairs, correspondence with landlords or real estate agents and any legal letters or documents.
The clinic is at the StAlbans office, Level 1, 359 Main Road West. Details: 83122000
