No post box for Eynesbury in immediate future

EYNESBURY residents are no closer to having a post box in their suburb with Australia Post stating it could be two years until a review.

Responding to a request from residents made via Melton mayor Justin Mammarella, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy noted the rapid increase to the area’s population.

But Australia Post said the infrastructure in place was “insufficient to warrant the installation of a street posting box”.

“Currently, Eynesbury residents have to travel to nearby centres for their shopping, banking and other needs, and are able to use postal facilities at these centres,” Mr Conroy said.

Following the addition of a new shed and truck in Eynesbury last November, the expanding township’s CFA group is looking to boost its service and form a brigade in the area. Residents can vote for creation of a new brigade at a public meeting next Tuesday.

CFA regional director Greg Esnouf said a stand-alone brigade was needed to support the growing community.

“Eynesbury is a rapidly expanding township within the shire of Melton, which has a current population of around 1500 people and an expected population of more than 10,000 within 10 to 15 years,” he said.

“A 3000-litre tanker has also been assigned to the Eynesbury shed. It was used for the first time last month when five members turned out to a grass and scrub fire on Parwan-Exford Road.”

Eynesbury is part of the Parwan fire brigade area.

Next week’s public meeting will be at the Eynesbury Discovery Centre from 7.30pm.
