Access in action
Wyndham council endorsed its 2019-22 Accessibility Action Plan during a meeting last week. Mayor Mia Shaw said the plan outlined the council’s priorities to improve access and inclusion of people with disability. Cr Shaw said the plan included working with local businesses; improving the accessibility to council’s website for vision and hearing-impaired residents and supporting the roll-out of the NDIS.
Learning curve
Wyndham council has launched its Learning Community Strategy 2018-23. The plan includes positioning Wyndham’s Learning Festival as the municipality’s signature learning event and for the council to host an annual education roundtable. Wyndham’s learning city portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said the strategy outlined a strong commitment to ensuring learning is available to all residents.
Disease grant
The federal government has given Wyndham council a $112,000 grant to help prevent and reduce the impact of chronic disease, and increase the overall physical and mental health of older Australians. The council will use the grant to deliver a project that supports Wyndham’s senior citizens to become more active.
