A proposal to build nine units on a block in Maddison Circuit, Darley, has been knocked back by Moorabool council.
Twenty-nine residents objected to the application.
In a report to councillors, council officers said nine dwellings on the triangle-shaped block would be an “overdevelopment of the site”. The proposal also failed to meet neighbourhood character guidelines. “The design fails to consider visual impact of the buildings when viewed from the street and adjoining properties,” the report stated.
Four residents who addressed the meeting urged councillors to reject the proposal. “It diminishes our lifestyle and the integrity of our houses,” Wayne Smith said. “It’s a family area, and these units won’t attract families.”
Julia Reynolds said the proposed development failed to respect the houses around it. “Planning decisions affect real people, and it can change your quality of life.”
The applicant could not be reached for comment.
