Hillside’s Robert Psaila has broken a 17-year drought at the Melton Gold Cup.
Having last won the event in 2003, Psaila claimed line honours earlier this month as the race meet returned to the calendar.
The event that brings together some of the best speed and power boat drivers in the world, didn’t run last year.
This year they had 70 entries across all different classes, with 18 racers across three heats in the main race.
It was side-by-side racing throughout with Psaila claiming the win. Psaila, who has had some bad luck in recent years, runs a big block 510 cubic inch engine with twin turbos he was doing speeds of 240kph.
Psaila is the commodore of the Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club which runs the event.
Around 5000 people attended the day with money raised for Beyond Blue.
