Melton Cricket Club will host a fundraiser for motor neuron disease (MND) research this Sunday, in honour of Kevin Vernon, who will play his 600th game for the club the same day.
Vernon, who serves as the club’s president, is currently suffering from the debilitating illness, which affects an individual’s ability to control particular nerves in their body.
Fundraising for the severely life-shortening disease has been popularised in recent years by former AFL Melbourne Demons player Neale Daniher.
Each year during the Queens Birthday clash between Collingwood and Melbourne, Daniher spearheads FightMND Big Freeze fundraiser, where fans can purchase blue beanies.
In a similar vein, Melton plans to host a smaller version of the special day.
The club will be selling Kev 600 game t-shirts, raffle tickets and sausage sizzle, with all funds raised going toward the Vernon family and MND treatment research.
To get involved, head down to MacPherson Park on Sunday February 27.
