Melton has given itself the best opportunity to make the Ballarat Football League grand final by securing the all important double chance.

The Bloods, who claimed the minor premiership, were tested by Ballarat early, before coming away with a 13.9 (87)-9.10 (64) win on Saturday.

Bloods coach Aaron Tymms said they were really happy with the win.

“Ballarat is a good side,” he said. “We now get the double chance next week. It’s a funny system with the top six, you have to win the first game no matter what.

“We were really pleased with it.”

The Swans led by one point at quarter time and the margin remained the same at half time.

As fans have come accustomed to, the Bloods were able to find another gear after half time.

“It was a real arm wrestle,” Tymms said. “We were able to break the game open in the third quarter.

“We made a couple of positional changes and added a bit more run around ball. Our second halves especially have been good.

“We had confidence in our ability to do that.”

Despite having the game in their control, Tymms was still weary at three quarter time with the Swans having come from behind at three quarter time on a number of occasions.

The Bloods were able to hold steady to seal the win.

Kyle Borg, Liam Carter and Braedan Kight and Jack Walker kicked two goals each.

Walker was one of the Bloods best along with Jordyn Cotter and Riley Walker.

Tymms said there were a number of good contributors in a pretty even performance.

The Bloods reserves also won on Saturday, earning a double chance.

The seniors this week play Sebastopol for a spot in the grand final.

Meanwhile Darley’s season remains alive after winning a thriller. The Devils held on against an inaccurate East Point, winning 7.6 (48)-5.17 (47).

Bailey Young and Trent Angwin were named best for the Devils who were without skipper Brett Bewley.

The Devils face Ballarat this weekend in an elimination semi final.
