Bacchus Marsh continued its impressive run in Bowls Victoria pennant division 2, section 1.
The new team in the competition after coming across from the Central Highlands Bowls Division, Bacchus Marsh didn’t know what to expect this season.
But with four rounds remaining, the side is not only on track to play finals, but finish top two and earn a home final. On Saturday, they were one of three winners in a rain interrupted round. Just three of the five matches went ahead in the section.
It was a comprehensive win for Bacchus Marsh against Hoppers Crossing, winning 83 (16)-65 (2) at Hoppers Bowls Club.
Phil Minniti’s rink was the big winner of the day for Bacchus Marsh, winning 27-10.
Simon Cornock’s rink won a thriller 16-15 and Daniel Willis’ rink was 24-16. Ethan Higgins lost 24-16 in the other rink.
The win has Bacchus Marsh sitting second, just three points behind Port Melbourne.
The two have all but sealed the top two spots, with a big gap on the rest of the competition.
Melton, which is out of finals contention, didn’t get onto the green in their match against Deer Park due to rain falling all afternoon in Melton.
Bacchus Marsh this week faces Altona, while Melton hosts Strathmore.
Melton’s other division 2 side, in section two, was also washed out, with just one match in that section getting underway.
Melton sits second with none of the sides around them getting onto the green either. Melton faces Strathmore this week.
