Diggers Rest started its season with a big win against Melton Centrals in the Riddell District Netball League. After a bye in round one, the Burras started strongly against Centrals and were never headed, winning 16.10 (106)-9.10 (64). Mitchell Jenson kicked six goals for the Burras in a best on ground performance. Mitchell Day was also handy up forward for the Burras kicking five. In other results, Woodend-Hesket and Wallan played out a draw, Macedon snuck home against Lancefield and Riddell beat Romsey.

WRFL

Caroline Springs made it two from two, beating Yarraville Seddon Eagles. Twelve scoring shots to two in the first quarter set the tone, with the Lakers winning 26.22 (178)-4.7 (31). Ryan Allan kicked 11 goals, while Josh Cubillo was named the Lakers best. The Lakers now sit 2-0 to start the season. They have a bye this weekend due to Easter.

EDFL

Burnside Heights also got its first win of the season, beating Hadfield in Essendon District Football League division 2. The Bears led at every break in the 12.6 (78)-9.12 (66) win. Keilor, Hillside and Keilor Park all had byes ahead of Good Friday clashes this week. In the women’s premier division, Hillside and Burnside Heights suffered big losses to Maribyrnong Park and Oak Park respectively. Hillside’s men’s side will play this Friday against the Sunbury Kangaroos.

A-League

Western United suffered a rare loss in the A-League competition, losing to the Wellington Phoenix 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in Ballarat. United was made to pay for a poor first half, with Phoenix taking advantage and scoring three goals. United reduced the margin early in the second half, but Phoenix hit back with their fourth. United remain in second spot, but has played two less games than run away leaders Melbourne City.
