BCA: Cape’s 90 saves Darley from embarrassment

Darley’s Matt Cape held his team’s innings together as the Lions set East Ballarat 143 for victory on day one of their Ballarat Cricket Association first-grade clash at Darley Park.

Cape’s 90no was the only score greater than 15 in Darley’s innings as the Lions were bowled out for 142 in 52 overs after East Ballarat won the toss and chose to field.

Cape came in at 3-14 and enjoyed partnerships of 38 for the sixth wicket with Hayden Jamieson (12) and 63 for the seventh wicket with Clint Salisbury (14).

East Ballarat batted for 25 overs before stumps and reached 2-57.

Sunday was a better outcome for Darley, its Twenty20 team winning by six wickets against Coronet City.

Ben Hall (4-15) and Beau Jamieson (3-22) did the damage as Darley held Coronet City to 103 batting first.

Craig McDonald (45no) top scored in the chase, while four other batsmen passed 20 as Darley reached the target four down and went on to bat out its full 20 overs, reaching 5-176.

The win was Darley’s first in the Twenty20 Cup after three straight losses to start the shortened-format series.
