GDCA: St Anthonys wins B grade premiership

ST ANTHONYS is heading to the McIntyre Cup division after chasing down Gisborne’s total within the first two days of the GDCA B grade grand final.

Gisborne struggled to build partnerships as the Dragons were all out 128 before St Anthonys made 4-151.

Only Steven Docherty (37) passed 30 for the Dragons as Cam Clayton (3-47), Bobby Keeping (2-28) and Joshua Evans (2-17) shared the wickets for St Anthonys.

The chase needed 52 overs for St Anthonys to reach its goal.

In C grade, Ashfield needs a lower-order special to deny Diggers Rest Bulla Village the title this Saturday.

The Burras suffered a 3-0 collapse after a promising start to be 4-54, rallying to 174 all out.

Shannon O’Keefe (28), Andrew Knight (26), and Blake Robinson (24) all chipped in to ensure a competitive total for the Burras. Ashfield reached 7-117 at stumps on Sunday, with O’Keefe (3-19) and Rhys Berry (3-33) the main wicket-takers with the ball.

In D grade, St Anthonys has the upper hand after reducing Gisborne to 4-64 in reply to 183.

In E grade, Lancefield (220) is closing in on victory with East Sunbury 7-136 in reply.

Jarryd McGill made 94 opening for Lancefield.

In F grade, Blackwood defeated Gisborne by by 99 runs to win the title. Darren Woodward (85) and Andrew Thomas (50) saved Blackwood from 3-15 with a 103-run stand for the fourth wicket on the way to being 235 all out.

Alan Salmon then took 5-25 as Gisborne was all out 136. Simeon Bain took 5-65 for Gisborne.

In G grade, St Anthonys 1 made 143 in reply to Sunbury United’s 135, with United making 5-22 in the six overs before stumps on day two.
