What came first, the chickens or the excitement?

Squealing students and chirping chicks . . . it’s been an epic two weeks at Kurunjang primary school.

As part of their life cycle studies, grade 1 and 2 pupils, including Jonathan (pictured), were given the chance to watch 130 balls of fluff hatch from their eggs.

While some were only caught on camera, others hatched in school hours in front of wide-eyed kids.

Grade 1 teacher Glenn Ransome said his pupils learned how to care for young animals, keep their surroundings clean, feed them and find them shelter.

“They love getting to hold the chicks. They sit around in a circle and watch them run around on the floor,” Mr Ransome said. “It’s one of the things we look forward to most.”

The eggs were delivered by Living Eggs on Tuesday, August 18, and hatched over the next few days.
