Unnamed parks under review

A series of unnamed skate and dog parks across the Melton municipality may soon have formal names, with council tabling a list that will be lodged with Geographic Names Victoria.

Raised at the 27 October council meeting, a list of formal names proposed for 12 skate parks and one dog park across Melton was presented to councillors and will be lodged with the government for registration and gazettal.

According to the council, this follows an audit which found a number of high risk, high priority features which are not formally named, registered or gazetted across Melton.

The list proposed the skateparks at 68 Plumpton Road, Diggers Rest, to be formally named Diggers Rest Skate Park; 71-79 Royal Crescent, Hillside, to be named Hillside Skate Park; 40-66 Reserve Road, Melton, to be named Melton Skate Park; Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve to be named Rockbank Skate Park; 56 Cambrian Way, Melton West, to be named Cambrian Way Skate Park; 307 the Parade, Caroline Springs, to be named Caroline Springs Skate Park; 71 Staughton Street, to be named Melton South Skate Park; 8a Omara Way, Taylors Hill, as Taylors Hill Skate Park; 479-481 Eynesbury Road, Eynesbury, as Eynesbury Skate Park; 4 Fields Street, Aintree, to be named Aintree Skate Park; Arbour Boulevard Central Reserve to be named Burnside Heights Skate Park; and 65 Mamic Boulevard, Fraser Rise, to be named Fraser Rise Skate Park.

The dog park at 3 Avoca Street, Eynesbury, is proposed to be named Eynesbury Recreation Reserve Dog Park.

Councillor John Verdon said these are high-risk areas, and it is important for emergency services to quickly locate them.

According to council , significant safety concerns exist which support naming these without seeking community consultation prior to lodgement with Geographic Names Victoria.
