Try chow mein for a taste of village life

Centennial Living’s Burnside Retirement Village is inviting older members of the local community to come join in on a free chow mein luncheon at noon on Friday, August 11.

The luncheon is part of a series of monthly events in which residents are invited to bring their family and friends to the village’s community centre to enjoy company and food, and have the opportunity to see what the place has to offer.

Burnside Village sales manager Glenn Guilfoyle said it’s an opportunity for the wider community to get a taste of village life.

“It’s a goodwill gesture to the existing residents and it’s an opportunity to get prospects in to rub shoulders with our community and get a feel for the place and the strong social fabric in our village,” he said.

“Come on down, it’s great fun, the residents always love to see visitors and they’re warmly welcome.

“Then if they want to, we can take them for a look inside the display villa unit in the village … there’s no obligation, get involved with the fun on the day and enjoy some chow mein lunch as well.”

The village has been a part of the community for more than 20 years, and aims to offer a socially engaging and enriching lifestyle and environment for seniors and retirees.

It is home to more than 300 residents and offers 216 villa unit, 24 condominium apartments, 18 serviced apartments in a spacious area.

Mr Guilfoyle said that Burnside Village’s highlights are the beautiful gardens and recreational facilities such as a full-sized bowling green, along with the community centre which acts as the community hub for get togethers and other social events’

“We have happy hour at 2.30 every day when anywhere between half a dozen to twenty residents come on down to laughing and carry on or chit-chat by the fire.

“For anyone thinking about their sense of security, continuity, and social fabric in their life or enjoy social engagement and activities, come down to Burnside Retirement Village and have a look.”

Burnside Village hosts regular special events, hobby groups, bowling on the green, barbecues, dinners, art and craft groups and coffee catch ups.

All attendees must pre-register to attend by contacting Glenn on 0455 509 389 or Kylie on 0433 777 689.
