The Caroline Springs RSL is working overtime throughout November, getting involved with multiple Remembrance Day events for the community.
Since the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of 1918 marked the end of WWI, Remembrance Day has been a day for remembering and honouring people for their military service.
On Sunday, November 3, the RSL in collaboration with the Woodlea estate in Aintree will host a ceremony at the Woodlea Town Centre from 10.30am.
Here, a special poppy installation will be unveiled as a moving tribute to the veterans, symbolising their sacrifices.
In addition, there have been two new memorial benches installed along the Walk of Honour pathway.
Each bench is dedicated to a veteran and features a plaque with their name, rank, years of service, and branch.
On Monday, November 11, the main service will begin at 10.45am, taking place at the Caroline Springs War Memorial at Lake Caroline.
Caroline Springs RSL president Andrew Marshall said it is an extremely important time of year to remember and honour those who have fallen.
“We all give a bit of time on November 11 to remember what’s gone past, especially when the last post is sounded… it’s a very haunting sound and it always brings back a lot of memories of the people I’ve served with and who have passed away even recently,” he said.
“It’s time to think about what they did and reflect… and then afterwards we can head back for two or three lemonades.”
The RSL will be launching its annual poppy appeal shortly, with poppies available for purchase throughout Caroline Springs, Burnside and surrounding areas, with proceeds going towards veterans.
