A local primary school has received funding support to help ensure that students start the day with full stomachs.
Woodlea property estate along with Foodbank have sponsored Aintree Primary School’s breakfast club, which is back up and running after pausing during the pandemic.
The club operates every morning, providing breakfast, healthy snacks and lunch to students in need, as well as fresh fruit in every classroom.
The support comes as Aintree Primary School has seen a surge in student enrolments since it opened in February 2021, with 800 pupils attending currently. Before being paused last year, up to 45 students would attend the breakfast club per day.
Aintree Primary School wellbeing officer Kimera Morgan said the school placed an emphasis on wellbeing to allow all students to have the opportunity to come to school and be engaged with their learning.
“We’re so excited to have the breakfast club back up and running after a 12 month pause due to restrictions,” Ms Morgan said.
Woodlea community development manager Claire Mouser said it was important to see the community come together to support each other when it was needed most.
“The breakfast club is a fantastic initiative to ensure kids are given the best opportunity to learn, no matter their circumstances at home,” Ms Mouser said.
“A lot of families either lost some form of income during the pandemic or were impacted in other ways, so we’re looking forward to seeing it active again, particularly as demand for the school continues to grow.”
