Residents and businesses in Melton and surrounding suburbs will gain better mobile coverage as the state government will invest in upgraded and new mobile towers for the area.

The new infrastructure will provide mobile coverage for a 150 kilometre radius across Brookfield, Cobblebank, Aintree, Weir Views, Exford, Melton South and Toolern Vale.

The radius of the coverage is expected to benefit more than 27,500 residents living and working in these areas.

The Victorian government will partner with mobile providers Optus and TPG Telecom through the Connecting Victoria program for the project, installing the towers between 2024 and 2026.

The Melton project will share in $300 million in funding that will improve mobile coverage at 1000 sites across Victoria.

Victorian innovation minister Jaala Pulford said better mobile coverage would give people vital links to their families, community, emergency services, education and work.

“High-growth areas like Melton need mobile services with more capacity as the population grows, that’s why we’re improving mobile connectivity in the area.”

Melton MP Steve McGhie said the investment was critical to keeping more people in the community connected “when it matters most”.
