String of home invasion and carjacking in Melbourne’s Northwest

Brimbank detectives have arrested six males, one as young as 14, following a string of alleged home invasions and carjackings in Melbourne’s northwest earlier this week.

It is alleged that a group of offenders, using edged weapons, made demands for victims’ vehicles on Gillespie Drive in Weir Views, Featherwood Drive in Aintree, and Sheila Mews in Darley between 11pm on Saturday, November 2, and 12.20am on Sunday, November 3.

It is alleged that the same group of offenders broke into a residential property on Cooloongup Crescent in Harkness at about 2am.

Once inside, the offenders allegedly threatened one of the residents with a gun and edged weapons. Police say significant damage was caused inside the home before the group fled.

Police alleged that the same offenders, again armed with firearms and edged weapons, forced entry into a property on Turpentine Road in Brookfield a short time later. Significant damage was caused to the home before the group fled in a stolen vehicle.

No one was physically injured during the incident and the vehicle was recovered by police a short distance away.

Investigators executed search warrants across Melbourne’s north-western suburbs on Thursday, November 7.

They arrested a 19-year-old Taylors Lakes man and five boys, aged 14, 15, 15, 16, and 17-years-old.

Officers seized weapons and clothing, and the 17-year-old was charged with aggravated home Invasion, aggravated carjacking, assault, criminal damage, and weapons offences.

He was remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

The Taylors Lakes man and the remaining boys are also expected to be charged.
