Plans for a new $3 million childcare centre in Truganina have been revealed, with a proposal for the 124- place centre lodged with Melton Council.
The proposal by Stockland Development for the vacant 1988 square metre site at 73 Altezze Drive is part of the Grandview master-planned community under construction by Stockland.
A town planning report prepared by Collie notes that the site is directly opposite a future local convenience centre to the north, as well as a future community centre and local sports reserve to the west.
“In addition, land to the immediate northwest of the community centre is identified for a government primary school,” it states.
Lots are also being developed for residential purposes within Grandview to the south and the site adjoins future residential land to the east.
“As the surrounding area will be characterised predominately by residential development… the proposed child care centre will be well supported and will integrate well with the school and other surrounding commercial uses, facilities and services,” according to the report.
The two-storey centre would be up to 8 metres high and built on the corner of Altezze Drive and Altar Street.
Plans show the building comprises a reception and waiting area, seven child care rooms, shared bathroom facilities, a sleep room for the children, areas for staff and storage areas.
A 564 square metre outdoor play area would be built at ground level on the north and east sides of the building, with a second 346 square metre outdoor play area built in the form of a roof deck at first floor level on the north side of the building.
A 23 space car park would be built to the south of the building with access via Altezze Drive.
Melton Council is yet to make a decision on the proposal.
