There was no room for princesses or glass slippers in Myrniong on Saturday.
About 2000 women from across the state descended on St Anne’s Winery for Mudderella – a full-day, all-female athletic event – to break from their usual exercise routine.
Competitors tackled a muddy 10-kilometre course with 15 obstacles, including slippery slides, narrow tunnels and tyre swings, designed to test balance, full-body strength, agility and teamwork.
An event ambassador, radio personality Jo Stanley, said the event focused on women and their friends, families and support systems taking pride in their strength, both inside and out.
“Mudderella inspires teamwork and unlocks a sense of accomplishment unlike anything else, empowering women to take pride in their strength,” she said.
“The event, which is not timed, is drawn from the idea of giving women a new way to think about fitness, as there is more to life than going to the gym.
“Fitness is not one-size-fits all. Everyone deserves an amazing experience and that’s what Mudderella offers.”
Ms Stanley said Mudderella challenged her like never before.
“It was cold and muddy but it was so much fun,” she told Star Weekly at the finish line.
“I’ve been a really calm and polite runner on the beach for a long time but I wanted to challenge myself and mix up my exercise routine. We laughed all the way.”
