The Melton unit of the Victorian State Emergency Service (VICSES) was the busiest in the state as storms swept through Victoria on Easter Monday.
More than 75 requests for assistance were made in the 24 hours following noon on Monday, April 1 to the VICSES’ Mid-West region which encompasses Bacchus Marsh, Ballarat, Daylesford, Gisborne, Grampians, Melton, Sunbury and Woodend.
The Melton unit was the busiest in the state during that time, responding to 39 requests. Ballarat was also busy with 21 requests.
Suburbs impacted included but were not limited to Melton and Melton South, Harkness, Taylors Hill, Caroline Springs and Sunbury.
The majority of callouts were storm-related, with 50 for building damage such as leaky roofs and downed trees, and 21 for flood or water threatening to enter property.
