Melton Secondary College is on the rise

Melton Secondary College students and teachers aim to build on recent achievements as they head into the new school year.

The school’s most recent year 12 results showed a significant turnaround in VCE scores, with its median study score jumping four points, from about 23 to 27, in the past four years.

While the score was not the highest in the state, Melton Secondary College principal David Reynolds said he was thrilled with the school’s progress.

“There has been a steady growth in our VCE scores,” Mr Reynolds said. “They’ve risen from 23.5 to 27.5 – and that’s a significant increase, one that we are very proud of. The state mean is 28 … so we are very much on the right track.”

Mr Reynolds said that the percentage of students with subject scores of 40 or more went up to eight per cent of students in the past four years. Three students received ATAR scores of more than 90 per cent last year.

He said the school would continue to build on the achievements of the past few years.

“Certainly, our results are getting stronger,” Mr Reynolds said. “We have a focus on academic growth for our students and we have a strong VCE and VCAL program and we expect to continue that success into this year.”
