Thousands of people are expected to gather in Melton to commemorate Remembrance Day this Sunday.
November 11 marks the centenary of the Armistice which ended World War I.
Melton RSL president Ian Lawrey and secretary Kevin Murray (pictured) will be among those observing a minute’s silence at 11am.
More than half a million poppies will be sold in the annual Poppy Appeal to raise funds for servicemen and women in need.
Mr Murray acknowledged the contributions of all service men and women.
“The sacrifice that our service men and women made is in no way diminished no matter how long it has been,” he said.
RSL Victoria appeals manager Peter Smith said the Poppy Appeal was a cause that resonates with all Australians.
“It reminds us all that we need to focus on the next generation of men and women who have served Australia, and who may need help finding their feet following their career in the Australian Defence Forces,” Mr Smith said.
Poppies are available from the RSL, Woolworths or Officeworks stores across Victoria or volunteers throughout November.
