Man arrested after firearm and burglary incident in Melton

A man was arrested in Bacchus Marsh on Sunday after he was allegedly involved in an aggravated burglary, armed robbery and firearms incident in Melton.

Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives were told the man fled the scene of a two-car collision and produced a firearm to threaten the driver of the second car at the intersection of Melton Highway and Ryans Lane at about 9.30am.

The passenger of the second car, a 63-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police conducted a search of the area and were told the man had allegedly committed an aggravated burglary at an address on Old Park Drive in Melton at about 11.30am.

During the incident the man allegedly produced a firearm, threatened the occupants and stole their car.

The man then allegedly drove the stolen car in an erratic manner at high speeds before he was apprehended by police on Bond Street in Bacchus Marsh at about 12.05pm.

The man is currently in hospital under police guard.
