Melton’s rubbish collectors have had a busy start to the year, with locals taking full advantage of their free hard waste collections and drop-offs to dispose of unwanted items the right way during the summer clean-up season.
In January, more than 1700 residents used their waste entitlements, and council completed about 100 hard waste collections per day.
Residents are being encouraged to keep making the most of their waste entitlements, which are set to expire at the end of each financial year.
Each household which receives a kerbside bin service is entitled annually to two council hard-waste collections of up to three cubic metres each, two drop-offs at the Melton Recycling Facility, or a combination of one of each, which are available to both renters and property owners.
Melton’s summer clean-up season was also boosted by the 2025/26 free green waste program, which ran at the Melton Recycling Facility between November and January, where 1322, or 474 tonnes of green waste were received.
Mayor Lara Carli said the convenient and free waste entitlements help keep Melton looking clean, whilst also tackling illegal dumping.
“This strong participation shows our community’s commitment to keeping the City of Melton clean and looking its best,” she said.
“There’s no need for anyone to dump rubbish illegally when there are convenient, cost‐freeoptions available.”
