The full opening of a busy intersection in Caroline Springs is one step closer, following the completion of asphalting and line marking.
The project has included removal of the existing roundabout at Caroline Springs Boulevard and Rockbank Middle Road, an expansion and realignment of the road, Installation of traffic signals, landscaping, new public lighting and underground services relocations.
In a Facebook post, Melton council said it has been advised that connection and final approval is anticipated to take around three months.
“We are pleased to say that construction on the intersection is complete, and council will now work with PowerCor and the Department of Transport & Planning to connect the lights and fully open the intersection,” the post said.
“Council will continue to work proactively with the required authorities during this time … we understand there have been some delays to the project, and we thank the community for their patience and understanding while we complete this vital upgrade.”
Until the intersection is fully opened, Caroline Springs Boulevard will remain at one lane each way, with a left turn only from Rockbank Middle Road.
According to the council, the former roundabout at Caroline Springs Boulevard and Rockbank Middle Road was one of busiest intersections in the Melton municipality, with traffic delays at the roundabout and safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists.
