IN FOCUS: Waves of fun a big hit for Melton

When locals head down to Melton Waves Leisure Centre for a swim or fitness session this summer, they will find the community facility changed for the better.

Melton Waves Centre Manager Daniel McShane says that Melton City Council’s Capital Works Program included the considerable and wide-ranging improvement works for the benefits of the community.

“The main change rooms have spanking-new shower cubicles, with change-space seat and clothes hooks for each,” he says.

“New floor and wall tiles, in fresh colours, also do their bit to enhance the user experience.

“And the men’s change rooms, previously an open shared facility, have three new enclosed shower cubicles.”

Work in the pool area has also been undertaken, including rust rectification; improvements to gardens surrounding the pool areas; plant and equipment upgrades; and refurbishment of showers and change rooms adjacent to the warm-water pool.

Melton may be a hike from the beach, but Melton Waves brings the beach experience to town.

“Our wave pool is designed for splashing in the shallows or riding the waves,” Daniel says.

“It’s much safer than the real beach and there’s no sand!

“We have seven swimming pools all up, including for toddlers and lap swimming, as well as a warm-water pool, which is great for buoyancy and pain relief while exercising.”

Swimming lessons for kids and adults are a major offering at the centre, as are the aqua aerobics held most days.

The health gym and fitness club at Melton Waves is a state-of-the-art facility, with all the latest equipment. Group classes include high intensity and mind and body sessions and, with 35 fitness classes held each week, there’s plenty of fun and motivation to be had.

Group fitness time tables are available on the website. Birthday parties are fuss-free and the ideal solution for busy parents. And there’s a creche for littlies to allow mum and/or dad to have their own gym or pool time.

When families sign up for swimming and water safety lessons, the first one is free. Fitness memberships incur no joining fees or lock-in contracts and the first fortnight is free. Both offers end on October 31, 2017.
