High Street upgrades complete

New traffic lights, traffic islands, and signalised pedestrian crossing were installed at three intersections along a busy road in Melton.

The intersections of High Street and Coburns Road, Norton Drive and Holland Drive have been upgraded to make the area safer and easier for motorists in the growing area, according to the state government.

Melton MP Steve McGhie said the upgrades had made travel safer and easier for everyone moving through Melton.

At the Coburns Road and Norton Drive intersections, street lighting and line marking has been upgraded as well as road resurfacing and tree and vegetation trimming and removal.

New dedicated turning lanes and a raised safety platform have been installed at the intersection of Coburns Road and High Street.

Meanwhile, the road has been widened at the intersection of High Street and Holland Drive to cater for heavy vehicles turning left from High Street.

The new lane configurations are now in effect, with changes to vehicle movements improving traffic flow for drivers.

A speed limit of 60km/h has also been introduced on High Street in both directions between Melton Valley Drive and the Melton Highway roundabout to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes.

Temporary street lighting is currently in place until the new street lighting is ready to be switched on.
