Five arrested as part of drug operation in north-western suburbs

Five people have been arrested as part of a police operation targeting trafficking and manufacturing of drugs in Melbourne’s north-west.

Police executed more than 20 search warrants on Thursday at properties across the north-west metro region including Flemington, Craigieburn, Broadmeadows, Melton and Greensborough.

Firearms, drugs including cocaine, heroin, cannabis and methamphetamine, stolen property a large amount of cash were seized during the searches.

A Craigieburn man, 30, has been charged with trafficking cocaine and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A Broadmeadows man, 35, has been charged with possessing an unregistered firearm.

A Flemington man, 31, has been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of cocaine, possessing a prohibited weapon and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

A Lalor woman, 25, and a Greensborough woman, 31, have been charged with possessing methylamphetamine.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Tim Hansen said Operation Aggregate focused on driving down the terrible harm caused by drugs.

Police have arrested more than 30 people as part of the operation.

“Enforcement is an important pillar in this approach,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Hansen said.

“Police have zero tolerance for drug traffickers and will continue to prevent, detect and disrupt people who bring drugs into the community.

“The only people who benefit from drugs are the criminals who peddle these substances in our community, and they often inflict further harm by taking their violent disagreements over the drug trade into our streets.”
