Education Minister visits local schools

Education was high on Melton MP Don Nardella’s agenda last week when he joined Education Minister James Merlino for a tour of schools and sites earmarked for schools.

Mr Merlino started his day at Bacchus Marsh College to announce $5 million funding for a new year 9 centre.

“This investment will give students a state-of-the-art learning environment and teachers the facilities to continue providing a world-class education,” he said.

Mr Nardella said he’d invited Mr Merlino to his electorate so the education minister could “familiarise” himself with the area and “know what’s going on”.

The pair also visited the Victoria University’s Melton South campus to discuss plans for the future of Melton Specialist School.

Mr Nardella said a masterplan for the school had been drafted during the term of the previous Labor government, proposing a new school on the current site.

“We’re having a look at what options there are for Melton Specialist School,” Mr Nardella said. “Do we continue with the master planning? Or do we relocate the school to Victoria University?

“So when the [Education] Department, school, parents and others talk about these things, and when I talk to James about it, I know he’s been here and understands what the existing school is like.”
