The football and netball seasons may be on hold, but that isn’t stopping the Darley Devils from having a presence in the community.
The Devils last week launched their Devils Run program, an initiative to help out those in the community that find it difficult to get out the shops during times of social distancing.
Program organiser Ally Edwards said the club wanted to help out as much as it could.
“We’re such a close club, we feel like a family, and not being able to train together or catch up was hard, so we wanted to make sure we still kept that community feel going,“ Ms Edwards said.
“We thought what better way to help at the minute than to help those that can’t get out and about, and we can easily help those people.
“Basically we’ve got a group of people at the club that will do the shopping run, go to the pharmacy, and then deliver it to the front door, contactless, to help people through this.“
A combination of footballers, netballers and committee members have put their hands up to be part of the pool of shoppers and deliverers from the club.
Ms Edwards said while it was tough being away from the club during what is normally the playing season, the club was determined to band together to help out
“We’re finding it tough, but we’re all checking in on each other to get through this,“ she said.
“We don’t want the community service to stop just because we’re stuck in our homes.“
