Council’s shout for liquor views

Melton residents are being asked for their view on guidelines for alcohol service and consumption.

Melton council adopted its alcohol and liquor policy framework in December and is now seeking public feedback on issues such as patron numbers, toilets, food safety, noise and the responsible service of alcohol.

The community alcohol policy aims to support hospitality ventures while minimising risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption.

Melton mayor Bob Turner said the council was committed to working with businesses and the community.

“We want everyone in the community to enjoy themselves when they are out and about in our city,” Cr Turner said.

“But we also want to ensure they are safe.

“The guidelines will assist business owners and event organisers to understand what is expected from them when it comes to running a licensed premises or event within the City of Melton.

“Not all alcohol consumption settings are the same, and may include anywhere from a bottle shop or pub to a footy club, to a 21st birthday party.

“The guidelines will help lead owners and organisers to make positive decisions around alcohol service.”

Community members were being encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas on how they would like the local alcohol service industry improved, he said.
