Moorabool Shire council has received recognition through the National Awards for Local Government, gaining an award nomination.

The nominations for the awards were recently announced, with the council being nominated in the Creativity and Culture category for the Hide and Seek music festival.

The category recognises council projects that support “creating vibrant and cohesive communities through the Arts”.

The festival was a free mid-winter event that ran over a month period, with four different towns in the shire hosting each weekend, featuring more than 200 artists across 20 venues.

One of the major outcomes for the project was the Young and Local program, that supported young musicians through a skills development program culminating in a youth-led event.

Young musicians from across the shire participated in the program and were paid for their performance as part of the festival, the first professional opportunity for many.

Voting for the awards is now open, with the winners to be announced in October 2022.
