The City of Melton will hold the Lifelong Learning Festival next month, to encourage residents of all ages and abilities to learn something new.

The festival will include more than 40 free workshops, covering areas such as sustainability, health, technology skills and creativity.

Residents can enjoy learning something new from September 3 to 10, with a community launch event on the first day at the Melton Amphitheatre from 11am, where attendees will enjoy live performances, subsidised food and free coffee and show bags.

Melton mayor Goran Kesic said the festival was a great opportunity to learn something new in a friendly, supportive environment.

“It’s a great reminder that learning new skills at any age can be fun and rewarding. It keeps your mind active, flexes those learning muscles and builds confidence,” Cr Kesic said.

“The festival takes learning out of the classroom and into kitchens, gardens, community centres and libraries.

“You can learn how to keep bees, compost, keep your children safe online, achieve financial health, draw with pastels, tie dye t-shirts, make healthy snacks, build a toolbox, make bush animal sculptures, create paper flowers, learn cultural dancing and so much more.”

The two featured events of the festival will host award-winning financial entrepreneur Tracey Sofra and writer and anti-violence campaigner Tarang Chawla.

Registration is required for most events and residents are required to book in early.
