A young Melton engineer is in a critical condition after suffering a stroke two hours into a Queensland getaway.

David Skinner, a drone designer and Bask Aerospace founder, and his fiance Jemima Benson were on holiday in Noosa earlier this month when their lives were flipped upside down.

“Around two hours into our getaway, the rest of our lives were changed forever,” Ms Benson said.

“David tried to say something to me which came out making no sense.

“Upon trying again we realised something was very wrong.

“David then lost all speech and the movement on the right side of his body, and we knew the situation required urgent medical care.”

The 30-year-old entrepreneur underwent emergency brain surgery and remained in a coma for two weeks.

Friends and family in Victoria have raised more than $12,000 through an online campaign to bring Mr Skinner home and help with his recovery.

Ms Benson said the couple have a long and challenging road ahead.

“David’s stroke has caused speech aphasia and right side immobility,” she said.

“We have many months of rehabilitation and recovery to come.

“Our lives have been put on hold. We really want to get home to Melbourne.

“I want to provide David with the life he dreamed of, with a family, and with a home to call our own.”
