Clean-up outing is a whole litter fun

Melton botanist John Bentley will have plenty of his trusty tools handy for Clean Up Australia Day – and he hopes many of his fellow residents will join him.

Mr Bentley will lead the clean-up project around Melton Botanic Gardens and surrounding areas next month.

Clean Up Australia Day, on March 3, provides an opportunity for people to help beautify and preserve their local natural spaces in an initiative in its 30th year.

Melton mayor Bob Turner is encouraging residents to put on some gloves and pick up a rubbish bag.

“Taking part in Clean Up Australia Day is not only a great way to help keep our local environment free of waste, but a good indicator of the types of rubbish that commonly find their way into our parks and waterways,” Cr Turner said.

“Helping out encourages us to think about how we can reduce the amount of waste we consume and produce, as well as improving our recycling habits.

“Why not ask your family, friends and neighbours to come along and spend a couple of hours keeping the environment free from harmful and unsightly litter?”

Participants can register clean-up site online or attend a pre-registered site.
