Nine-year-old Sebastian will take out his running shoes next month for a cause dear to his heart.
The Melton youngster will be taking part in The Age Run Melbourne event to raise money for and awareness of beyondblue – a not-for-profit organisation working to raise awareness about mental health.
He is looking forward to sweating it out during his marathon effort and has already raised more than $150 in a few weeks.
“I know I want to just help because I like helping people,” Sebastian says. “It’s nice to help people – if someone is sick, I’d want to help them.”
Mum Rhi say she’s “extremely proud” of her little boy, who nominated beyondblue.
“He was bullied at school, so he understands what it’s like to feel [upset] and he doesn’t like to see other people feel that way,” she says.
“Last year he wrote a story about bullying, which was published, and that’s when he decided to raise money for beyondblue.”
