A brand new community and education centre could be built at the Sri Durga Temple in Rockbank if the federal government is elected.
Hawke MP Sam Rae and Gorton Labor candidate Alice Jordan-Baird visited the temple and announced that the Labor party would contribute $5 million to the centre if elected.
The $5 million election commitment could enhance the temple’s ability to host religious ceremonies and community events as well as continue their food relief programs for the community.
Ms Jordan-Baird said the Sri Durga Temple is more than a place of worship, it’s a cornerstone of the local community here in Gorton.
“This $5 million investment from a re-elected federal Labor government will help the temple expand its vital work, from food relief to cultural education.”
Mr Rae said, “Hawke is a proudly multicultural electorate, and federal Labor is committed to celebrating and supporting the important contributions of our diverse communities.”
