Nine carparks and street furniture will be among the latest developments in Ballan’s town centre streetscape redesign.

Stage two of the upgrade started last week on the south side of Ballan between Cowie and Fisken streets.

Extensive works on Inglis Street were completed in August last year, including asphalting, paving and installation of street furniture.

The installation of 11 more bench seats, nine carparking spaces, five bins and three bicycle rails are part of stage two.

Moorabool mayor Paul Tatchell said Ballan business owners and community members had spent considerable time assisting the planning and design of the revamp.

“In a growing community, I am sure the nine extra carparks will benefit both the traders and community,” Cr Tatchell said.

Stage two will also include wider asphalt footpaths, sawn bluestone paving, asphalt treatments, drainage improvements and upgrades for accessibility at road crossing points and disabled parking bays.

Council infrastructure general manager Phil Jeffrey said electrical conduits and pits would be laid.

“As part of the works, council is installing underground conduits that will future-proof the street for the potential undergrounding of electricity,” Mr Jeffrey said.

“Installation works of this nature may slow the progress of the works, but will definitely provide a better long-term outcome.

“We are making every effort to expedite
these works, which will enhance the visual appeal and functionality of the street and deliver a great outcome for the Ballan community.”
