Cricket heroes a big hit

Melton and Moorabool community cricket legends are in line for national honours.

Cricket fans are being asked to nominate members from their local clubs as Community Cricket Champions.

The initiative, run by Specsavers and Cricket Australia, celebrates the work of dedicated cricket club members and volunteers across the country.

Cricket ambassador Ian Healy said he was excited about seeing the incredible people behind Aussie cricket being recognised.

“Each and every player on the Australian cricket team started out playing community cricket,” he said.

“And it’s at the thousands of local cricket clubs around Australia where that love of the game began.

“We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the best in community cricket … I’m looking forward to acknowledging our well-deserving local Community Cricket Champions.

“It’s great to be working with Specsavers and Cricket Australia to celebrate the best in community cricket and to give volunteers the credit and recognition they deserve – after all, it’s what makes the game all it is today.”
