Alleged attempted car-jacking hundreds of metres from police station

Police arrested a 49-year-old Melton man after an alleged attempted car-jacking in the main street of Bacchus Marsh on Monday.

Moorabool Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Troy Morrow said the man allegedly ordered a woman to get out of her car.

Police say he then entered the car and attempted to drive off.

The incident occurred near the corner of Grant Street, just hundreds of metres from the police station.

Detective Sergeant Morrow said uniformed members rushed to the scene where they arrested the man who remains in custody.

The woman was very shaken, Detective Sergeant Morrow said.

The 49-year-old man will appear at Ballarat Magistrates’ Court today.
