Lovers of the sweet life are set to make a beeline to Diggers Rest for the annual Beekeeping and Honey Festival.

The festival, organised by J Beekeeping School, showcases the tastes, sights and smells of a variety of honey products, including meads, liqueurs and candles.

Beekeeper and festival founder Stan Starc said the festival is popular with young and old alike, with demonstrations of bees at work as well as tastings and sales.

“I’ve been a beekeeper all my life,” Mr Starc said. “I come for a family of beekeepers.

“I remember how my father would do it when I was a boy and I always wanted to do it, so when I found a club here in Melbourne – I flew in. I’m a hobbyist and I hope to see many more at the festival.”

Swarms of beekeepers will talk about the different areas they use to house their hives and how different plants and locations provide different flavoured nectars.

Demonstrations, honey and mead tastings and a bee beard show will be among the festival attractions.

The festival will be held on Sunday, March 10, from 10am-4pm, at Jadran Social Club, 35 Duncans Lane, Diggers Rest. Entry costs $5 for those aged over 15.
