Sixteen Moorabool competitors will welcome in June by testing their limits – battling through seven gruelling kilometres and 15 demanding obstacles as part of the Spartan Race on May 31.
There’s no more apt trainer for the brave team than Mark Stiegler, who placed in the top 10 in the Spartan Race world titles last year in the USA and runs Bacchus Marsh Crossfit.
“Most of the team have been training every week since March, and we’ve focused on specific skills to help in the rope climb, Hercules hoist, spear throwing and monkey bars,” he said.
Competitors are timed and ranked as they battle their way through obstacles including barbed wire and flame jumps.
Crossfit is a training technique developed for strength and conditioning, and is used for police forces, military special operations units, martial artists and professional athletes.
Skills learnt in Crossfit are carried over into the Spartan Race, and more than 15,000 people have registered for this year’s event.
