GDCA: Bacchus Marsh skittles Woodend for a paltry 63

Bacchus Marsh gave Woodend a taste of its own medicine to skittle the visitors for just 63 on Saturday in the Gisborne District Cricket Association’s McIntyre Cup.

Woodend entered the game having rolled St Anthony’s for 34 in round one yet delivered a double-figure score of its own in a 95-run defeat at Bullengarook.

Bacchus Marsh captain Scott Wakefield top scored with 39 as the Bulls reached 9-158 off their 40 overs.

That score proved more than enough as Mark Hooper’s 6-20 led a 27-over rout of Woodend.

At one stage, Woodend was 6-14 as Hooper and Rhys Watson (2-13) tore through the top order.

St Anthony’s recovered from its round one capitulation, albeit still losing in a close contest against Wallan.

Darren MacRae (51) and Michael Yates (48) shared a 58-run stand as St Anthony’s made 8-142 off its 40 overs batting first.

Yates then backed up his effort with the ball to take 4-25. But Wallan squeaked home late, needing all its 40 overs to post 7-149 in reply.

Elsewhere, Sunbury United won the grand final re-match against Sunbury by 85 runs. Andrew Powell’s 78 not-out led United to 4-170 before an even spread of wicket-takers removed Sunbury for 85 in reply.

At Romsey, Riddell’s Matthew Livingstone (44no) and Scott Fuller (10no) were the heroes as the visitors won by one wicket.

The Bombers recovered from 7-58 to make 9-115 and chase down Romsey’s
109.

Bacchus Marsh hosts Sunbury United and St Anthony’s hosts Romsey in one-day games this Saturday.
